Supported by your supervisor, a stream lead, a senior mentor and our dedicated Graduate Program team, your structured, individual development plan includes real work and projects, a corporate orientation and regular face-to-face workshops.

Graduate program & development journey

To support you with your individual development plan you will have regular and ongoing check ins and reviews with your rotation manager, Graduate Program manager, stream lead and mentor on how you are tracking. You will also receive ongoing peer support from your buddies and other Graduates.

Additional benefits

  • At the successful completion of the Graduate Program and upon commencement of a permanent placement, you will receive a one-off completion bonus.

Our program streams

All our graduates are expected to rotate across different sites in the two-year program. For site-based roles, we expect that you work in two different sites in Australia throughout the program. For the Finance & Commercial and People & Culture functions, there is a combination of Group Office (Sydney) and site-based rotations.
Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical Engineers work in both open pit and underground environments and undertake a range of activities including data collection of geotechnical models, design and analysis of open pit and underground excavations, monitoring and risk assessment to produce safe, practical and economic designs.

Prerequisites: A Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering or Geology degree completed within the last three years.

Mining Engineering
The Mining Engineering team at our sites has responsibility for the design, planning, monitoring and reporting of mine production and coordination of activities to ensure compliance with the plan, procedures and standards. Graduates at Evolution are expected to complete a tailored program consisting of a combination of field and office time. Graduates with an interest in pursuing an underground mine managers ticket or open pit quarry managers ticket will have the opportunity whilst on the Graduate Program, aligned to the Western Australian legislation.

Prerequisites: A Mining Engineering, Science (Mining) or Engineering Science (Mining Engineering) degree completed within the last three years.

Geology
At Evolution you will be exposed to the full mining cycle – underground and open pit operations, Resource Definition and Greenfields. Across our operations we mine copper and five different mineralisations of gold – orogenic, high-sulphidation, low-sulphidation, intrusion related and carbonate base-metal gold.

Prerequisites: A Science degree majoring in Geology, Geoscience, Geophysics (honours strongly preferred) or similar degree completed in the last three years.

Metallurgy
Our Metallurgists are responsible for ensuring that key plant operating parameters remain within target, are achieved and are accurately reported. They also monitor and ensure that the consumption of process consumables remains in line with budget, and they carry out continuous improvement projects in the form of metallurgical test work and trials that are aimed at improving gold and copper recovery, processing efficiencies and costs.

Prerequisites: A Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or similar degree completed within the last three years.

Asset Management
Asset Management is responsible for supporting the asset management, reliability and continuous improvement of our mobile and fixed plant, and associated infrastructure. The team ensures the mobile and fixed plant are fit for purpose and safe for use in accordance with the applicable laws and standards. They are also involved in the coordination of activities to ensure compliance to plan, procedures and standards as well as exciting technological cross departmental projects such as Project DEBI and Halo Lens.

Prerequisites: A Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Science (Mechanical Engineering), Engineering Science (Electrical Engineering), Engineering (Instrumentation Control and Automation) or similar degree completed within the last three years.

Sustainability
Sustainability is integrated into everything we do. Our Sustainability team are responsible for ensuring operations and projects operate at a high standard and achieve sustainable outcomes for our people, planet, process and profit. We are committed to providing workplaces and supporting communities where our people, including contractors and business partners, are physically and psychologically safe, healthy, and well. The team focus on raising the environment and social governance profile of the company both internally and externally. This is done by supporting sustainable projects within our operations and regions through data analytics and reporting, transparent communications and identification of risk and opportunities which demonstrate excellence in sustainability. Our sustainability functions include Health and Safety, Environmental, ESG & Social Responsibility (including First Nations) and Risk & Improvement.

Prerequisites: A completed Sustainability, Earth Sciences, Communications, Health & Safety, Governance and Risk, Public Relations or similar degree completed within the last three years.

Finance & Commercial
The Finance and Commercial team partners with our business to provide the full spectrum of finance and supply chain activities both from a corporate point of view, and at our mining operations.

Prerequisites: A Commerce, Business, Law, Economics or similar degree completed within the last three years.

People & Culture
Our People & Culture team partners with the business to maximise the value of our people both from a corporate point of view, and at our mining operations. The function supports the business in all areas of recruitment, remuneration and benefits, employee relations, organisational design, learning and business partnering.

Prerequisites: A tertiary qualification in Business or HR or a related discipline completed within the last three years.

Screening call

Psychometric testing
Candidates who progress to this stage will be asked to complete a Saville Wave psychometric assessment. Be prepared to dedicate 60 – 90 minutes to complete aptitude and behavioural testing online
Assessment centre
You will be asked to attend a virtual or face to face assessment centre to complete group activities and be observed by a panel made up of leaders across the business.
Interview
If all goes well, you will be invited to an interview with one or more members of the team that you have applied to. Come prepared to answer a variety of questions, and don’t be afraid to ask us some too!
Offer
Once interviews have been completed, our team will be in touch via a phone call with the outcome of your application. If you are successful, we will provide a conditional offer pending pre-employment checks.
Pre-employment checks
You will be asked to undertake pre-employment checks. ​In Australia, pre-employment checks include a medical and a Federal police check.  ​In Canada, pre-employment checks include a medical and a criminal history check.  ​

You will receive a confirmation once you have fulfilled the pre-employment requirements.

Onboarding
Your Evolution employee experience commences prior to starting with us. You will be asked to complete onboarding documents. If your role is site-based, you will be required to complete a PPE request form and relevant site-based inductions prior to commencement. ​

If relevant to your role, travel arrangements will be confirmed at this stage. ​

Frequently asked questions

What can I expect at the group assessment centre?

During the assessment centre, you will learn more about Evolution and our Graduate Program. You will then be asked to complete activities to see if you will be a good fit for your role and us.

Is previous mining experience a prerequisite?

No. You’re not required to have any previous mining experience, although any relevant vacation or intern work is helpful.

How can I best prepare for my interviews?

It’s recommended that you understand what your Graduate Program might entail. This information is provided on our website. It’s also important to understand what our values are and what we might be looking for and provide relatable examples and experiences.

When does my Graduate Program start?

Your program will start in February of the year you have applied for.

How long is my Graduate Program?

The program is run over two years and is designed so you get experience in various areas of expertise within your role. For most roles, you may be required to work at a mine site throughout the duration of your program. In other roles, you may be required to work at a mine site for at least one rotation, generally in the second year of your program.

What developmental support can I expect?

Career development is a key focus throughout your program and as such we have adopted the 70:20:10 learning approach where:

  • 70% of learning is on-the-job exposure to new and challenging experiences
  • 20% of learning is through a support network and learning from peers, coaches and mentors
  • 10% of learning is through workshops and webinars

We encourage you to take up opportunities for development, as long as it is linked to your current role. Throughout the two-year program, you have the opportunity to access financial support for your professional development.

Is going to a mine site mandatory?

Yes. Most of our roles are only site based. For roles in People & Culture and Finance/Commercial, we do expect at least one rotation to be at a site. Please take this into account when applying.

Can I decide what mine site I go to?

Your considerations will be taken into account in the decision-making process, but you may not get your preferential site.

What happens when I complete my program?

Upon the successful completion of your Graduate Program, you will be offered full-time work to continue developing your career with us.

Who can I go to for help and advice?

The Graduate Program Manager in the People and Culture team is there to check in with you and assist with any queries. You can also go to your Site Manager, utilise the Employee Assistance Program we have on offer or refer to your mentor assigned to you in your second year of the program.

Will I receive assistance if I have to relocate?

Yes. Depending on the role you have applied for, this may vary so please enquire further.

Are all sites fly in/fly out (FIFO)?

No. We have a combination of residential, drive in/drive out (DIDO) and fly in/fly out (FIFO). We do expect that there is at least one residential rotation.

What are mine site facilities like?

We pride ourselves on catering to our employees wellbeing and provide on-site gyms, public spaces and other amenities.

If I have to relocate, can my partner come?

Yes. However, relocation and accommodation is provided on a single basis only. Please enquire further.

Can I take further study during my Graduate Program?

You are welcome to undertake further study. However, remember that you are expected to undertake a full-time role as well as development workshops whilst on the Graduate Program.
